Puerto Galera Hash

It wasn't until I arrived at Puerto Galera that I had even heard of Hash House Harriers. These are social running clubs located all over the world, with a "hash" being a mystery route marked with chalk that the "hashers" have to follow.

You wouldn't catch me running more than a few hundred yards in a tropical location, but the PG hash are an eminently sociable bunch who lay on a shorter walking route. For a few pesos you get to join the run or walk, wear a T-shirt, drink a lot of beer, sing "Rugby" songs and generally make a lot of new friends. It may sound a bit like bawdy ex-pats, but there were quite a few Filipinos in the group.

I normally like to walk about and get away from the beach areas, but would never have ventured as far back into the forest if it weren't for the hash. The route mixed between following roads, tracks and jungle paths, up and down hills and through local villages completely different to downtown Sabang beach.
