Most dive centres on Bonaire are not that keen on Cai Lac. It is the northern point of a deep bay on the more exposed east side of the island and the visibility is typically only half that of the more sheltered dive sites on the west side of Bonaire.
Tucked in behind the tip of Cai Lac you can enter the water near an old jetty, then swim out eastwards across a fairly bland mixture of reef, rocks and sand. It would be very easy to swim past this and onwards to the reef wall, even if it is a 15 minute swim.
However, when you stop to look, every single nook and cranny is home to something interesting. When you get a bit further out there are enormous shoals of snapper and grunt, and just before the reef wall is a long sandy basin that is home to a shoal of hundreds of Tarpon. On top of all that there are lobsters, peacock flounders, angel fish and eagle rays.
